Edward graduated from Hotel School in the UK and went on to train at the Dorchester Hotel in London and then with Movenpick in Switzerland. He then spent eight years in South Africa in various management positions in Five Star establishments for Southern Sun Hotels, also working on new hotel openings in the latter part of that period, before returning to the UK and joining the Roux Brothers, to manage the start of their contracting business and then as Managing Director of Roux Restaurants Limited.

On joining the Royal Household in 2001, he held overall responsibility for internal operations, including all hospitality and entertaining delivery at home and State Visits abroad, and the upkeep and historic refurbishment of the interiors of the occupied Royal Palaces.

He was a member of the Royal Wine Committee, was appointed to the Board of Royal Collection Enterprises Limited as a non-executive director, advising on Public Opening operations and refurbishment projects. He was also appointed to the Board of Westminster Abbey Enterprises Limited as a non-executive director in 2013.
​
In 2012, together with a small group of Industry Leaders, he became a founding Trustee on the Board of the Gold Service Scholarship, which was launched to encourage young people to develop their Front of House skills and promoting service excellence within the hospitality world through training and mentoring. In 2014 he secured the Patronage of Her Majesty The Queen and the Scholarship is now well established and applauded by the industry.

Honours and Awards

Awarded Lieutenant of the Victorian Order (LVO) by The Queen in 2008.

Elevated to Commander of the Victorian Order (CVO) in The Queen's New Year's Honours List in 2013.

Awarded Honorary Doctorate from the University of West London in 2011 for his ongoing work in the training and development of young people in hospitality, together with his work in developing the first nationally accredited Butler's Diploma.

Fellow of the Institute of Hospitality (FIH).
